If you want to know the caliber of the players competing for the USA Select U18 and U16 teams this weekend in the Brogden Cup, look back at the inaugural squads from 2019.
These were the pioneers who helped launched USA Lacrosse’s National Team Development Program, which at the time used U17 and U15 designations.
Now they’re tearing it up in college.
Rachel Clark, Virginia
The ACC Freshman of the Year set a UVA rookie record with 64 goals, adding 11 assists as the team’s top scorer.
Emma LoPinto, Florida
An IWLCA third-team All-American, LoPinto put up 97 points — fourth-most ever by a freshman in NCAAA Division I women’s lacrosse history — this past spring. She was a 10-time AAC Freshman of the Week.
Bobby O’Grady, Marquette
The Big East Freshman of the Year broke Marquette’s single-season scoring record with 45 goals in his first season in Milwaukee. It included an eight-goal outburst against St. John’s.
Fallon Vaughan, Yale
A unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection as a freshman midfielder, Vaughan was Yale’s No. 2 scorer with 31 goals.
Asher Wagnon, Georgia Tech
Wagnon scored 34 goals and shot 40 percent from the midfield, emerging as a force for a Georgia Tech team that advanced to the MCLA Division I championship game.
