The top seven teams in the Nike / US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20 remain unbeaten, but Washington and Lee jumped up one spot ahead of Salisbury to take the No. 2 position after a dominant 10-0 start.

Otherwise, the top 12 remains intact. The only team that lost in that group last week was Denison, which won’t be punished for a three-goal loss at Division I Butler.

The most notable change this week is No. 13 Trinity (Conn.) dropping out after back-to-back losses to a pair of unranked NESCAC opponents over the weekend. Hamilton and Wesleyan both enter the rankings after those wins, and William Smith is back in as well.

HOT

Brockport (+6)

After opening with losses to Ithaca and Geneseo, Brockport has won seven straight — including avenging one of those losses this week.

Heather Conklin tied a career high with seven goals to lead the Golden Eagles to a 15-7 win over Geneseo to get a busy week started. They added two more wins over the weekend to keep their streak going. Conklin also had an assist and six draw controls against Geneseo, while Morgan Elmer was stellar in goal with 17 saves to tie her career high. Courtney Cunningham added four goals.

NOT

Geneseo (-2)

After beating Brockport in their opener, the Knights struggled in the rematch for their only big loss of the season. They trailed 9-5 at halftime and couldn’t recover, four days after a narrow, one-goal defeat in double overtime against St. John Fisher. Hannah Marafioti scored four goals in the 15-7 loss to Brockport.

Geneseo rebounded with a 14-5 win over one-win Fredonia on Saturday but might not get a chance to really prove itself again until the SUNYAC tournament, starting April 29.

IN

Hamilton (No. 17)

The Continentals earned some attention with a 17-9 win over then-ranked Wesleyan on April 10 and now join the Top 20 after an 11-10 victory over former No. 13 Trinity (Conn.). Courtney Pierre’s sixth goal made it 11-9, and after the Bantams cut the deficit to one with 1:04 left, Hamilton senior goalkeeper Megan O’Hara came up with a save on one last shot with 18 seconds left to secure the win.

Hamilton is 2-1 after splitting games with Wesleyan, winning the most recent matchup.

Wesleyan (No. 19)

The Cardinals returned to the rankings with a 16-15 win over Trinity (Conn.) on Sunday, as they rebounded from an eight-goal loss to Hamilton one week earlier. Johanna Copeland scored her fifth goal of the game with 1:25 left to give Wesleyan a two-goal lead and that proved to be the difference after a quick response from Trinity for the final score.

William Smith (No. 20)

The Herons have won four straight to sneak back into the Top 20, including a pair of wins against RIT over the weekend. They have two losses to Ithaca and a one-goal loss to St. John Fisher in the opener, but William Smith remains the second-place team in the Liberty League. William Smith has one more game, a good test against Brockport, before the conference tournament April 28-29.

OUT

Trinity (No. 13)

The Bantams had a rough weekend and two one-goal losses to a pair of unranked teams ended up knocking them out of the Top 20 for now. After dropping an 11-10 loss to Hamilton on Saturday, they fell 16-15 to Wesleyan on Sunday.

Against Hamilton, the Bantams scored four of the last five goals, including their last one with 1:04 left to make it a one-goal game, but a late shot with 18 seconds left was stopped and Trinity didn’t get another chance for the equalizer. In the loss to Wesleyan, Lily Ives scored with 1:09 left to make it a one-goal game, but the Bantams were held off the board for the final minute and fell short.

John Carroll (No. 17)

The Blue Streaks’ perfect season ended with an 18-17 loss to unranked Capital University on Saturday, and they fall out for now while the top three teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference sort things out amongst themselves. A game Wednesday against one-loss Mount Union could push John Carroll back into the mix. John Carroll had opened with 13 straight wins, marking a program-best start to a season.

St. Mary’s (No. 19)

The Seahawks fell out after dropping a fourth loss of the season, even though it was a respectable 14-13 overtime decision against No. 3 Salisbury. The Seagulls took a 12-6 lead with 21:41 left before St. Mary’s went on a 5-0 run and scored seven of the last nine goals to tie the score at 13 with 4:46 left and send it to overtime. Lydia McNulty scored the winner.
