On Monday, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) named two-time defending national champion Virginia the No. 1 team in its preseason top 20 poll. UVA earned 16 first-place votes, and second-place Maryland earned the other.

Virginia, which also checks in at No. 1 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s Preseason Top 20, brings back a pair of All-American attackmen in Connor Shellenberger (the 2021 NCAA championship MVP) and Matt Moore, plus multi-threat faceoff specialist Petey LaSalla and two-thirds of the rangy close defense Georgetown coach Kevin Warne memorably called “velociraptors” after the Cavaliers eliminated the Hoyas in the NCAA quarterfinals.

Duke and North Carolina are Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, while Notre Dame and Georgetown are tied for No. 5. Check out the rest of the poll below.
