Vero Beach moves up one spot in the first in-season report for the Nike/US Lacrosse South Girls' Top 10, while Walton remains steady at the top.

1. Walton (Ga.), 3-0

The Raiders were idle last week after a strong start to the season, which included out-of-state win over defending Florida state champion Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra (Fla.).

2. Milton (Ga.), 3-0

With 11 players scoring goals, the Eagles beat Alpharetta 19-1 in their only game last week, six days after earning a quality win over Lake Highland Prep (Fla.). Kate Winsness had four goals and Sophie Baez a hat trick in the LHP game.

3. Vero Beach (Fla.), 6-0

The Fighting Indians picked up three wins last week, including a 19-1 romp against Lake Mary (Fla.). Maddie Ellis had five goals and two assists in that win, and Gracie Martin, Lily Linehan and Gabby Sposato all chipped in four goals.

4. St. John’s (Texas), 2-0

The Mavericks were idle after opening with two big wins in which they totaled 36 goals. They play Katy on Feb. 28.

5. Hutchison (Tenn.), 1-0

The Sting opened with an 18-2 win over St. Agnes Academy. Senior Griffin Gearhardt had four goals, two assists, two draw controls and two groundballs in the first half. Freshman Janessa Mai added three goals, an assist, four draw controls and four groundballs.

6. Blessed Trinity (Ga.), 3-1

After opening the season with a one-goal loss to Olympia (Fla.) and rebounding with a notable win over Ponte Vedra (Fla.), the Titans returned to Georgia ready to go. They picked up a 17-10 win over Kell and then beat Wesleyan, 18-8. The Titans have a big game against Lassiter on Feb. 28

7. Charlotte Country Day (N.C.), 0-0

The Bucs open the season March 3 against Hoggard (N.C.).

8. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.), 0-0

The Crusaders open the season March 3 against Durham Academy (N.C.), which they beat 18-8 last year.

9. Bartram Trail (Fla.), 4-2

The Bears rebounded from successive losses to Walton and Lassiter (Ga.) with a win over in-state rival Lake Brantley, but slip in the rankings. Mya Watson led with seven goals and one assist in the win over Lake Brantley.

10. Lake Highland Prep (Fla.), 4-2

The Highlanders picked up three consecutive in-state wins last week after losing two of their first three games to Vero Beach and Milton.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kaley Attaway, Blessed Trinity (Ga.)

The sophomore attacker/midfielder scored seven goals in her team’s 18-15 win over Ponte Vedra (Fla.) and followed that with four goals and two assists in a 17-10 win over Kell (Ga.).
