USA Lacrosse Magazine announced Tuesday its Division II Men’s Preseason Positional Players of the Year, honoring the best of the best at each position ahead of the upcoming 2022 spring season.

Five athletes earned preseason positional recognition — one attackman, one midfielder, one defenseman, one goalie and one specialist. This one day after the Division II Men’s Preseason All-Americans were announced.

Stay tuned Wednesday for the reveal of the Division II Men’s Preseason Player of the Year.

PRESEASON ATTACKMAN OF THE YEAR
CARTER COLLINS, LE MOYNE

Collins dropped 40 goals and 13 assists in an All-American season for Lindenwood in 2021 and now joins the defending champion Dolphins. Le Moyne lost All-American attackman Matt Hutchings from last year’s roster, so Collins will slide into a role that should see plenty of production.

PRESEASON MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR
BEN MCCREARY, LE MOYNE

McCreary, a bulldozing middie, is poised to be the leader of the Le Moyne offense. He scored 26 goals in 2021, but he’s a menace on the ride and will help set up talented attackmen like Collins for quality chances in front of cage.

PRESEASON DEFENSEMAN OF THE YEAR
NATE ARNOLD, LE MOYNE

Arnold might be the most physical imposing player in all of Division II, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 185 pounds. He picked up 41 ground balls for the third-ranked defense in the country, and he returns to anchor a traditionally dominant unit.

PRESEASON GOALIE OF THE YEAR
KEVIN MO, SETON HILL

Mo, a stalwart in the cage for Seton Hill, allowed just 8.55 goals per game last season and returns for a fifth season. His 61.6 save percentage ranked third nationally last year, leading Seton Hill to a 9-3 record.

PRESEASON SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR
SHAWN DORAN, MERCYHURST

In stacked national faceoff group that included Tampa’s Ross Dickerson, Doran finished second in Division II, winning 75.8 percent of his faceoffs as a sophomore. He also chipped in four goals and six assists last season, cashing in on the offensive end when opportunities presented themselves. Doran should keep Mercyhurst a factor throughout the 2022 season.
