The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Ava Simonton, Ward Melville (N.Y.)

She’s just a freshman, but Ava Simonton is off to a remarkable start to her high school career. In her varsity debut, she scored a hat trick in a 9-5 win over West Islip (N.Y.) and then sparked a big come-from-behind win over perennial powerhouse Garden City (N.Y.) with four goals and two assists.

“As one of only two freshmen on our team, Ava has been showing her playing ability and poise can lead us in tight games,” Ward Melville coach Stephanie Peragallo said. “I am so excited to see how she progresses with us over the next four years.”
