The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Madison Taylor, Wantagh (N.Y.)

Madison Taylor was a dominant force in a huge 3-0 week for Wantagh (N.Y.). But in truth, it was just another day at the office for the Northwestern-bound senior midfielder.

In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, she had four goals, one assist and seven draw controls in a 14-11 win at Manhasset (N.Y.). Taylor followed that with four goals and five assists in a 17-8 victory over Plainedge (N.Y.) and had five goals, four assists and 10 draw controls in a 20-5 victory over Shaker (N.Y.). On the season, Taylor has 60 goals and 32 assists and 117 draw controls.

“Madison is the best player on the field at all times. She was able to dominate a very talented Manhasset team all over the field in a hard earned victory and then followed that up taking over the game against Plainedge,” Wantagh coach Robyn Rooney said. “It starts at the draw and with 117 draws herself on the season, it’s easy to see why we have had a successful season.  She’s an absolute generational star that we are lucky to have in black and gold.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Gabbi Koury, Owen J. Roberts (Pa.)

The junior midfielder scored five goals and provided an assist in Owen J. Roberts’ 7-3 win over Garnet Valley (Pa.). All five goals came in the first half as the Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead. With the win, Owen J. Roberts improved to 18-0, its second consecutive year with a perfect regular season. Koury, a Florida commit, also had four assists in a 20-1 win over Norristown (Pa.) earlier in the week. For the year, Koury has 118 points on 74 goals and 44 assists. She also leads the team with 134 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers.

SOUTH

Jacqueline Jaskiewicz, Lake Highland Prep (Fla.)

Senior midfielder Jacqueline Jaskiewicz helped lead Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) to a state championship last week. The Georgetown signee provided six goals, five assists, four draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers in wins over Episcopal School of Jacksonville (Fla.) and American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) en route to the title. The six goals in the final four helped her reach the 50-goal plateau in her final high school season.

MIDWEST

Cordelia Flemming, Edina (Minn.)

The Hornets are off to a 7-1 start, including five straight wins since their lone loss to 2021 state champ (and still undefeated in 2022) Prior Lake (Minn.). Flemming has played a key role all over the field for Edina, including five goals, five draw controls and five caused turnovers against St. Michael-Albertville (Minn.); five goals, three assists, six caused turnovers and six draw controls against Hopkins (Minn.); and three goals and four caused turnovers against Rosemount (Minn.).

WEST

Cate Alexander, La Jolla (Calif.)

The junior midfielder was a part of a big week for the Vikings, as they earned in-state wins over Scripps Ranch (Calif.), Coronado (Calif.) and Torrey Pines (Calif.) last week. Alexander was a well-rounded contributor, finishing the week with seven goals, five assists, 12 draw controls, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers; however, her second of two goals against Torrey Pines on May 5 proved especially key. With five seconds left, she scored the game-winner to lift La Jolla to an important 11-10 victory that secured the top seed for the playoffs. Alexander totaled four points against Scripps Ranch and five points against Coronado.
