The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. The South Region has completed its season.

NORTHEAST

Joey Spallina, Mount Sinai (N.Y.)

Spallina opened eyes earlier this year when he broke a Suffolk County single-game record with 13 assists — without playing the fourth quarter. But with 25 seconds left in the Long Island Class C championship, the Mount Sinai junior wasn’t passing up a shot he’s waited to take his entire life. With new Syracuse coach Gary Gait in attendance, the Orange-commit wrapped around the cage and scored the winner to help lift Mount Sinai over Manhasset in a thrilling championship tilt Saturday. It was the sixth goal of the game for the top-ranked junior in the country by Inside Lacrosse, and he also added an assist. “Joey played an exceptional game,” Mount Sinai coach Harold Drumm said. “He played with an intensity and determination to achieve one thing — win. I am extremely proud of his leadership and character as a person and player. He waited his entire life for that moment at the end of the game — 25 seconds to go, ball is in his stick, win the game. You could not have written it better.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Connor Gorman, Don Bosco (N.J.)

Gorman tallied 12 points in the semifinals and finals as Don Bosco won its first Tournament of Champions title. The junior attackman, who has committed to Marquette, scored seven goals in a 9-5 win over Pingry (N.J.) in the TOC semifinal on June 16. Gorman then led all Bosco scorers with three goals and two assists in an 11-7 win over previously unbeaten Summit in the championship game Saturday.

MIDWEST

Klaus Anger, Loyola Academy (Ill.)

The Ramblers faced their customary share of adversity throughout the IHSA final four with Anger lifting them to a pair of comeback wins and a state championship. Anger went 18-of-22 from the faceoff X as the Loyola attack eventually took off against Wheaton Academy. Then, trailing 6-3 at halftime of the state title game against Lake Forest, Anger helped the Ramblers rebound after the intermission, winning nine of his 12 second-half faceoffs.

WEST

Cam Brown, Mountain Vista (Colo.)

The senior attackman scored the game winner in overtime to lift the Golden Eagles to a 13-12 win over previously unbeaten, defending state champion Cherry Creek (Colo.) in the CHSAA Class 5A semifinals Saturday. Brown finished with a hat trick, and the victory put Mountain Vista back in the West top 10 going into the championship game against Valor Christian.
