The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. The South Region has completed its season.
NORTHEAST
Dominic Comella, Canandaigua (N.Y.)
Canandaigua closed the regular season by slaying a pair of previously undefeated teams and earning the top seed in the Section V Class B tournament. Comella brought the dagger. The senior midfielder had seven goals and one assist in the Braves’ 3-0 week. It started with one goal in a 7-5 win over Victor (N.Y.), one goal and one assist in a lopsided win at Gates-Chili (N.Y.) and then an explosion in his final regular season game — five goals in a 9-3 win at Penn Yan (N.Y.) in the 85th meeting between the rivals.
Comella, also a star running back for the Canandaigua football team, has 24 goals and eight assists on the season as the Braves turn their attention on winning their first Section V title since 2013.
