Kara Mupo scored four goals to lead a touring team of players from the U.S. national team training pool and the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) to a 10-3 victory over England in the decisive game of a three-game summer series held at the rugby field at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre in England.

US Lacrosse funded the trip for the 14-member U.S. contingent, which included U.S. national team assistant coach Alex Frank serving as the coach.

The U.S. opened the series with a convincing 11-4 victory over England on Friday night behind five goals from Mupo, a member of the WPLL’s Command squad, and two each from Amanda Johansen and Mollie Stevens.

On Saturday, Jenny Simpson scored in the final seconds of the game to give England an 11-10 victory over the U.S. England scored the first four goals of the game and didn’t trail until late in the fourth quarter when Johansen gave the U.S. team a 10-9 lead. Johansen, a member of the WPLL’s Brave, is one of four players on the travelling team that has participated in U.S. training team events since Jenny Levy took over as the U.S. team head coach in late 2017.

England, however, had the answer for Johansen’s goal. Emily Gray scored to tie the game and then Simpson, a veteran of the English national team program, scored her second of the game for the winning goal.

Alex Drewe led England with three goals while Claire Faram and Simpson each scored twice. Johansen, Alyssa Leonard, Mupo, Mollie Stevens and Haley Warden each scored twice for the U.S. team.

Mupo took control of the deciding match right out of the gates to lead the U.S. to the 10-3 victory on Sunday. The U.S. scored the first three goals of the game, two of them by Mupo, and she scored three of the U.S. team’s first five goals.

Leonard and Stevens each scored twice for the U.S. on Sunday.

Mupo scored 11 goals in the three games to lead the U.S. squad in scoring in the series. Stevens scored six times, Johansen had five goals and Leonard had four tallies.
