SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced Team USA and Duke men’s lacrosse coach John Danowski as a featured speaker for high school and youth boys’ lacrosse coaches at the 2019 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 11-13 in Philadelphia.

Danowski this summer led the U.S. men’s national team to the gold medal and an unbeaten record in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship. US Lacrosse appointed Danowski as the team’s head coach in December 2015, and he’ll share lessons learned from that journey among other coaching tips during his LaxCon session at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

“Coaching the U.S. team over the last three years was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Danowski said. “Coaching as long as I have — maybe you’d think there’s not much left to learn in this profession, but I developed considerably professionally and personally on that journey to the world championship. LaxCon is a great hub for coaches to teach and learn, and I’m looking forward to sharing what I learned to help other coaches help their players reach their potential.”

During a 12-year tenure at Duke, Danowski has led the Blue Devils to three NCAA championships and nine appearances in the national semifinals — most recently in 2018. He has won nearly 400 games and mentored dozens of All-American and national award-winning players during his 36-season career as a collegiate head coach.

“Coach Danowski has been a consistently popular speaker at LaxCon, and we’re grateful he’s returning to share his experiences and tips as Team USA’s head coach,” Lance Basler, general manager of the US Lacrosse national teams program, said.

The specific date and time of Danowski’s session will be announced as the convention draws near.

LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year to learn the game, network with others in the community, and then develop the sport locally upon returning home.
