SPARKS, Md. — Following this past weekend’s Lacrosse All Stars North American Invitational, U.S. indoor team head coach Regy Thorpe has announced that 32 players have advanced to the U.S. training team in preparation for the 2019 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.
The U.S. program had a successful weekend at LASNAI, splitting its tryout pool into two teams that each compiled 4-1 records. USA Blue lost to Thompson Brothers Lacrosse in the championship game and USA White finished in third place.
The training team features 10 players that have played for previous U.S. indoor teams at the world championship, including two-time team members Kevin Buchanan and Greg Downing. The team also includes five players — Trevor Baptiste, Marcus Holman, Rob Pannell, Tom Schreiber and Joel White — that helped the U.S. field team win a world championship this past July in Israel.
Thorpe will bring the team together for a training weekend on Oct. 19-21 in Columbus, Ohio. The team will hold a box lacrosse clinic for boys and girls 8 to 18 on Oct. 20 as part of its activities for the weekend.
The United States has medaled at each of the previous four FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, earning bronze in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.
The U.S. men’s national indoor team trains and plays using best-in class products provide by Nike (apparel and footwear), Cascade (helmets), Warrior (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguards) and DJO (sports braces).
