SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse has announced that 110 players have been invited to try out for the 2019 U.S. Women’s U19 National Team. Tryouts will be held Aug. 10-12, 2018 at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
A Player Identification Committee that included US Lacrosse Women’s High Performance Committee Chair Anne Phillips, U.S U19 head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, U19 assistant coaches Ann Elliott, Brooke Matthews, Angela McMahon, U19 team assistant manager Meredith Frank McGinnis, U.S. senior team head coach Jenny Levy and eight regional recruiting coordinators determined the list of players invited to tryouts from a pool of more than 500 applicants.
The pool of 110 players has players from 16 states and includes six players that just finished their freshman season of college lacrosse, 50 high school seniors, 34 high school juniors and 20 high school sophomores from the 2017-18 academic year.
“I’m excited about the level of interest and the number of applications we received to be a part of the U19 national team tryout,” said Phillips. “I’m very pleased with the work the committee has done thus far in trying to identify the top candidates. We’re looking forward to the August tryout and helping the U19 staff select the best team to win gold.”
“I’m very proud of the work of our staff and selection committee, who spent countless hours evaluating every person on a very impressive list of over 500 candidates,” said Amonte Hiller. “We look forward to evaluating this group of 109 young women showcasing their talent, character and leadership skills.
“I anticipate the remainder of the tryout process to be very competitive and exciting. This list of invitees is the first step of a journey that will give 18 fortunate athletes the opportunity to represent their country in this great sport.”
