The US Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.
Players of the Week from the Northeast will be announced once play begins in the region.
Kate Galica, Conestoga (Pa.)
Galica had a monster game in a big early season showdown with one of the other top teams in Pennsylvania. The sophomore midfielder didn’t have a chance to play last year when the pandemic hit, but Galica debuted after that delay on March 26 with five goals and three assists, nine draw controls, three ground balls and five caused turnovers to lead previously unranked Conestoga to a 16-10 win over former No. 6 Agnes Irwin.
Also notable: Kaylee Dyer, Penn Charter (Pa.); Kori Edmondson, McDonogh (Md.); Hannah Johnson, Bryn Mawr (Md.); Caitlin McElwee, St. Paul’s (Md.); Payton Rowley, Maryvale (Md.)
— Justin Feil
Talia Zuco, East Chapel Hill (N.C.)
Leading East Chapel Hill to a stunning state championship, Zuco scored five times in the final win over Weddington. She also notched a hat trick in the state semifinal against Wake Forest.
Also notable: Maddie Dora, Milton (Ga.); Taylor McClain, Pine Crest (Fla.)
— Justin Boggs
Maddie McGarty, Carmel (Ind.)
The senior is a big reason the Greyhounds are off to a 4-0 start, beginning with a four-goal performance against a leading in-state rival in Cathedral. McGarty is now up to 19 goals, five assists and 20 ground balls just four games into the season.
Also notable: Annie Hargraves, Upper Arlington (Ohio); Cameryn Callaghan, Upper Arlington (Ohio)
— Jonah Rosenblum
Stella Wineman, La Jolla (Calif.)
The senior midfielder totaled eight goals and two assists over a pair of wins last week. She tallied four goals and one assist and added five draw controls as the Vikings topped Torrey Pines 21-3 in the season opener. Then the Ohio State recruit had another four goals and one assist in a 22-3 win against Poway.
