The US Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Tighe Cummiskey, Darien (Conn.)

Darien (Conn.) picked up a pair of big wins last week against Ridgefield and New Canaan, and Cummiskey was at the epicenter of both. The junior FOGO and standout fullback on the football team was 20-for-25 on faceoffs, and those added possessions helped Darien defeat Ridgefield 14-7. He followed that by going 13-for-22, mostly against New Canaan’s standout FOGO Hayen Shin, a senior committed to Trinity. On the season, Cummiskey is 81.6 percent from the faceoff X through four games.

“Tighe has had a great start to the season and is working hard for the challenge that lies ahead,” Darien coach Jeff Brameier said. “He is a real student of his craft, and we are reaping the benefits of his hard work.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Declan Maseker, Delbarton (N.J.) 

Maseker came up with nine saves, three in the fourth quarter, and stepped in front of a potential game-tying cutter to force a turnover that gave Delbarton momentum to close out a 6-3 win over Chatham (N.J.) on Saturday. The senior goalie opened the year with 10 saves in a 9-2 win over Montclair on April 20. Maseker helped backstop a Delbarton defense that allowed just five goals in its first two games.

SOUTH

Finn McCarthy, Blessed Trinity (Ga.)

Taking on one of the top teams in Georgia, Finn McCarthy scored five times in last week’s win over Roswell (Ga.). For the week, McCarthy, a senior, scored 11 times and added five assists. McCarthy is committed to Middlebury.

MIDWEST

Griffin Liedel, Hudson (Ohio)

There were a lot of reasons the Explorers knocked off previously undefeated Dublin Jerome (Ohio), including hat tricks from Alec Dickens and Jack Jenkins and a number of key saves from Alex Movshin, but coach Brandon Schwind highlighted the work of “do-it-all player” Griffin Liedel. The Hudson junior, who has 41 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers so far this season, “has been holding opposing teams’ best players to minimal production thus far in 2021,” according to Schwind.

WEST

Lucas de la Paz, Mater Dei (Calif.)

The sophomore won a stunning 33-for-34 faceoffs (97 percent) to ensure Mater Dei had a chance to control time of possession, and the Monarch’s offense took advantage for a 20-10 win against Sierra Canyon (Calif.) on Thursday. De la Paz also had four assists and 18 ground balls.
