The US Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.
NORTHEAST
J.P. Kosakowski, Staples (Conn.)
Staples coach Will Koshansky said no one knows Kosakowski’s name, but that is changing after a standout performance between the pipes in a season-opening 7-3 win over New Canaan Saturday afternoon. The uncommitted senior goalie made 14 saves, including a few of the spectacular variety, in an eye-opening, statement-like victory for the Wreckers.
“J.P. has the rare ability to consistently make the dramatic, game-changing saves, like he did against New Canaan,” Koshansky said. “Every day he makes a save or two that our coaches turn and look at each other and say, ‘Did he really just make that save?’ He is taking hold of his opportunity to lead our team. The most impressing thing are those in-tight saves he makes look so easy.” More performances like that and Kosakowski will go from unknown to household name in the Northeast.
