US Lacrosse and Major League Lacrosse recognized contributions to the development of lacrosse at the local level by MLL players through the “Homegrown Hero of the Game” program.

The “Homegrown Hero of the Game” highlighted MLL players who have deep roots in their hometowns and have made significant efforts in growing the sport in their local area. The players were recognized during each game of the league’s 20th anniversary season, which wrapped Sunday with the Boston Cannons hoisting the championship.

Those efforts directly align with US Lacrosse’s mission to support the positive growth of the sport at the grassroots level. US Lacrosse, a non-profit organization founded in 1998, has invested $275 million in the development of the sport since its inception.

“Celebrating the contributions of MLL players to the growth and development of lacrosse is a natural complement to our mission,” US Lacrosse CEO Steve Stenersen said. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with key stakeholders like the MLL to scale and amplify shared priorities.”

“Aside from being able to impart their expertise on the next generation of lacrosse participants, our players do this for the absolute passion for the game,” said Alexander Brown, Commissioner of Major League Lacrosse. “Any time that we can work with US Lacrosse to help build our sport, the league and our players are all in.”
