With a team-high eight points on eight assists, No. 6 North Carolina senior attacker Ela Hazar set a new single-game program record for assists in its 18-13 win over No. 11 Northwestern. She topped the previous mark of six set by Amy Fine in 1997 and tied by Sydney Holman in 2014.

Her performance earned her Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

Hazar also became the Tar Heels’ career leader in assists with 98, surpassing Becky Lynch, who recorded 92 from 2009-2012.

Three of Hazar’s assists came in the first period, but the Tar Heels trailed by one at halftime.

Then Hazar stepped up her game.

Less than three minutes in, she assisted the first goal of the second half to Jamie Ortega to tie it, 8-8.

After the Wildcats regained the lead just 12 seconds later, Hazar again had a game-tying assist, this time to Katie Hoeg at the 26:40 mark.

Five minutes later, Hazar assisted Ortega again for the go-ahead goal to go up 12-11 for one final UNC lead that never disappeared.

Hazar finished with two more assists in the last 15 minutes, both to Hoeg, first at 14:06 to record a two-goal advantage and then with 2:39 remaining to lead by five.
