AMHERST, Mass.— University of Massachusetts women’s lacrosse associate head coach Jana Drummond has been tapped to lead the Minutewomen as the 10th head coach in program history, Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced on Friday.
Over her five seasons at UMass under former head coach Angela McMahon-Serpone, she helped lead the squad to a record of 81-21, five Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championships, two Atlantic 10 Tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament berths.
“I am pleased to promote Jana Drummond to lead our nationally-recognized women’s lacrosse program,” Bamford said. “Jana has flourished in her five years as our associate head coach. She has coordinated student-athlete recruitment, organized our defensive units on the field and has developed lasting relationships with the women in our program. Through her passion, work ethic and commitment to Massachusetts lacrosse since her arrival, Jana has undoubtedly earned this appointment. We are excited about her vision for our future and the opportunity to maintain continuity in a program that has been tremendously successful over the last decade.”
“I’m incredibly honored and thankful for the opportunity to lead the women of UMass Lacrosse,” Drummond said. “I would like to thank Ryan Bamford and the athletic department for their belief and support in me, and the opportunity of a lifetime. I am forever grateful to Ange McMahon-Serpone for five incredible years of mentorship, bringing me into the UMass Family and giving me the opportunity to make incredible memories that I will never forget. In addition, I’d like to thank all the players and alumni who I have had the pleasure of sharing the field with over the years. You are what makes this the best job in the world!”
