Where should we begin in American’s 19-9 win over Presbyterian?
Casey Harkins set single-game program records with 11 assists and 12 points and notched her 34th assist of the season, all new records. She passed Erica Skowron in all three categories.
Emma Vinall also set a record, as her nine goals are now an all-time best for American. The Eagles are 7-0 and completed their first undefeated non-conference schedule in program history.
American jumped out to a 13-4 lead before halftime, closing the first half on a 9-1 run. American out-shot Presbyterian 33-19 and won 20 of 29 draws.
Family Affair for Duke-East Carolina
Tuesday night’s game was special for Duke coach Kerstin Kimel, and not just because the Blue Devils emerged with a 16-6 win over East Carolina.
She was able to coach against her daughter, Caroline, who scored one goal and controlled three draws for ECU in the loss. Duke led 8-4 at halftime and went on a 7-0 run after ECU made the score 9-5. Assistant coach Ron Caputo also got the chance to coach against his daughter, Sam, who recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Katie Cronin led the way for No. 19 Duke, scoring four goals an adding an assist. Catriona Barry netted a hat trick for the Blue Devils, which entered the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20 this week on the heels of a 16-10 victory over ACC rival Virginia.
Duke’s emergence as a team that can possibly make noise in 2020 is thanks in part to a diverse offense. After Tuesday’s game, eight Blue Devils have double-digit goals — led by 22 from Cronin and 21 from Barry.
Freshman Caroline DeBellis leads the team with 19 assists.
