Taylor Cummings is a three-time Tewaaraton winner, a member of Team USA and the head coach at McDonogh (Md.) . "Taylor's Takes" is presented by Gait Lacrosse. Be legendary.

Week 2 is officially under our belts, and what a fun week it was.

We hosted the Athletes Unlimited Futures Summit to start us on a good note, mixed in a few July birthday celebrations with some Duck Donuts and ice cream pints, and finished with six highly competitive and close matchups. Each game featured fantastic goalie play, fast-paced ball movement and spectacular efforts on both ends of the fields.

We even had two SportsCenter Top Ten plays!

As someone who is so passionate about our women’s game and its necessary growth, it’s so exciting to see all of the coverage of our game at the highest of levels and the biggest of stages. All in all, it was a highly successful seven days for our group, and we’re all ready to go for Week 3.

Before we look ahead to our next round of games, though, let’s take a look at some of the standouts from this past weekend.

SAM APUZZO
ATTACK, TEAM WARDEN

Sam is a threat all over the field and proved that once again this weekend. She’s a sharpshooter on the offensive end, rides the ball incredibly hard and can dominate the center circle with ease. Sam truly makes an impact wherever she is on the field and has found a ton of success early on in our pro season.

And for the second week in a row, Apuzzo was the No. 1 overall pick in the weekly AU Lacrosse draft. She was a force last weekend for Team Warden, and now she will play for Team Purple and captain Kylie Ohlmiller.

MEG DOUTY
DEFENSE, TEAM ARSENAULT

Having played collegiately with Meg at Maryland, I know firsthand what a force she can be on the defensive end of the field.

The most technically sound defender I’ve ever played with, Meg is able to shut down some of the top attackers in the world. Her quick feet, suffocating strength and impeccable lacrosse IQ not only allow her to find success in her individual battles, but within her team’s team-first defenses. too.

BRITT READ
GOALIE, TEAM TREANOR

Britt was lights out all weekend long, but especially in our last game with Team Orange on Sunday afternoon.

She has some of the quickest hands I’ve ever seen as a goalie and challenges shooters with the various angles she takes in cage. Britt also exudes a positivity and confidence that spreads like wildfire to her teammates and provides a spark that they need.

This is Britt’s her first appearance in professional women’s lacrosse. The former Oregon goalie set the Ducks’ single-season saves record (179) in 2018 before it was broken by Rachel Hall the following season. Prior to joining Oregon, she spent three years at Louisville, where she holds career records for saves (323) and save percentage (51.6).

ALYSSA PARRELLA
MIDFIELD, TEAM WOOD

New to the professional scene, Alyssa has made an impact instantaneously.

She’s incredibly hard to stop on the offensive end, and she was able to find success with shifty alley dodges and low and away finishes to opposite corners. Alyssa is also reliable and confident on the defensive end of the ball with both man-to-man and zone schemes, making her the ultimate two-way threat.
