Kaitlyn Mead scored four goals and Michigan never trailed, defeating No. 7 Notre Dame 11-7 at the Loftus Center in South Bend, Indiana on Sunday.

The Wolverines came out on fire, shooting 11-for-25 (44 percent) and keeping the Fighting Irish at bay on the other end. Notre Dame shot just 2-for-9 on free positions, as Michigan goalie Arielle Weissman made 13 saves in the win.

The Wolverines led 4-3 after the first quarter. Kaylee Dyer ignited a four-goal run with two tallies in just 27 seconds, including a highlight-reel backhanded finish in front.

Uncharacteristically subdued, Notre Dame pulled within three goals in the third quarter, but that’s the closest it would get.

Michigan, which throttled Detroit Mercy 23-2 in its season opener, received consideration in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Top 20 and surely will find itself in the national top 20 following the victory.
