Just two days after No. 6 Boston College needed overtime to thwart ACC rival Louisville, the Eagles came out Sunday morning looking like a different team.
Jenn Medjid tied BC’s single-game record by scoring nine goals — tying Sam Apuzzo, a graduate assistant on the Eagles’ staff — as Boston College improved to 7-1 with an 18-3 victory in Chestnut Hill.
Charlotte North was held without a point, making Medjid’s career day even more crucial. North did control 13 draws, though, as BC held a 16-7 advantage on the circle. Belle Smith added three goals and one assists, Cara Urbank had four assists and Caitlynn Mossman went for one goal and three assists.
DEEHAN LEADS NOTRE DAME OVER DUKE
Bridget Deehan made eight of her 12 saves in the second half as No. 4 Notre Dame topped No. 7 Duke 13-9. Nine players scored for the Irish, a showcase of the team’s offensive depth. Samantha Lynch, Kasey Choma, Andie Aldave and Jackie Wolak each scored twice.
A nearly 15-minute stand by the defense helped Notre Dame take an 8-3 lead into halftime, and Duke (6-4) got as close to 10-7 with 9:35 remaining after Catriona Barry and Catherine Cordrey scored back-to-back goals.
Notre Dame responded with three straight goals — one each from Madison Ahern, Choma and Lynch — to ice the game for the Irish, who improved to 5-2.
ANOTHER UPSET AT THE SHOE
Ohio State snapped a six-game losing streak Friday with a 15-12 win over No. 10 Penn State. The Buckeyes started a winning streak Sunday.
Hosting the Nittany Lions in Columbus for the second time this weekend, Ohio State (3-7) topped Penn State (3-5) 11-9. Jillian Rizzo’s 10 saves were key, supporting offense that saw Sophie Baez, Ashley Turner, Nicole Ferrara and Lindsay Epstein each score two goals.
Penn State led 5-4 at halftime, but Ohio State scored six straight to start the second half and completely take control of the game. Kara Nealon assisted Mary Muldoon with 4:23 remaining to cut Penn State’s deficit to 10-9, but Baez scored 35 seconds later to put Ohio State back up by two goals.
