A match-up of the defending NCAA champion and the nation’s hottest team lived up to the billing.
Stony Brook won its 12th straight game, beating 2018 NCAA champion James Madison 10-9 in overtime in College Park, Md., on Nicole Barretta’s goal.
James Madison dominated the draw in the game, winning 15 of 21, but Stony Brook’s Ally Kennedy secured the draw to start overtime and Stony Brook called timeout. Just over a minute later, Rayna Sabella fed Barretta for the game-winner.

The Dukes scored three straight goals to close the first half and took their biggest lead of the game at 6-3 when Hanna Haven opened the second-half scoring.
Stony Brook battled back and scored three in a row of its own, taking a 9-8 lead on a goal by Kennedy with 2:46 remaining.
JMU answered, with Logan Brennan scoring with 1:28 left to send the game to overtime.
Kennedy led Stony Brook (16-4) with four goals and Tayrn Ohlmiller had four assists. Anna Tesoriero made 12 saves to earn the victory.
Maddie McDaniel led JMU (16-4) with four goals and had nine draw controls to set a Colonial Athletic Association single-season record with 129 draw controls. Molly Dougherty made 11 saves.
The Seawolves advance to Sunday's second round game against No. 1 seed Maryland. The teams last played in the 2017 NCAA quarterfinals at Maryland when the Terps closed the game on a 6-1 run to edge Stony Brook 13-12. Sunday's game will be carried on the Big Ten Network at 12 p.m.
