As part of a family with three sisters that have played or still play lacrosse collegiately, Steph Colson’s probably should be a good player for Gettysburg.
But this good?
Colson has led the Bullets to two straight NCAA championships, and the senior midfielder will try to make it three in a row after taking home nearly every superlative honor out there. Most notably, Colson earned the IWLCA National Player of the Year award and the NCAA Championship Most Valuable Player award. Add another as the three-peat drive begins: Colson is the Brine/US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Preseason Player of the Year.
Colson corralled a school- and Centennial Conference-record 140 draw controls last season, highlighting a stat line that included 50 goals, 26 assists, 53 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Predictably and deservedly, the IWLCA named her its midfielder of the year, a first-team All-American, and a first-team All-Metro Region player. Add to her credentials the Honda Cup Division III Women’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Year award and a spot on the all-conference first team, as she helped Gettysburg to a 21-2 campaign that finished with an 11-9 win over Middlebury in the NCAA final.
Colson need not shy away from discussing family lacrosse accomplishments with sisters Allie (Messiah, 2014-16), Lizzie (Maryland, 2017-present), and Beanie (Mount St. Mary’s, 2018-present).
Other players considered include TCNJ senior goalie Miranda Chrone, York senior defender Nicole Clauter, and TCNJ senior midfielder Kathleen Jaeger.
