A season that began with a one-goal loss to Denver is quickly gaining steam. No. 20 Stanford ended No. 10 Stony Brook’s 33-game home winning streak that dated to 2016 by scoring the final three goals of the game to beat the Seawolves 15-12.
The Cardinal have now won four straight after weathering the storm against Stony Brook (2-2).
Stanford took an early 5-1 lead only to see Stony Brook rip off five straight goals. Ally Kennedy’s goal with 2:54 left in the first half gave the Seawolves a 6-5 lead.
Stony Brook led 7-6 at the half and took two-goal leads on three separate occasions in the second half. The last came at 10-8 following a Tayrn Ohlmiller goal with 18:44 left in the game.
Ali Baiocco scored back-to-back goals to ignite a four-goal run that put Stanford back in front 12-10.
Ohlmiller and Nicole Barretta scored goals just 46 seconds apart to knot the game once more with 7:51 left, but those were Stony Book’s final goals.
Stanford took a 13-12 lead with 6:24 left when Katherine Gjertsen quickly restarted the ball after an errant shot with the possession clock winding down inside 15 seconds. Gjertsen found Areta Buness in front for a quick goal.
Stanford stretched it to two goals with 3:42 left when Buness found Jacie Lemos inside and then Baiocco iced the game with her sixth tally.
The six goals were a career-best for Baiocco and Buness scored three times. Stanford goalie Trudie Grattan made a career-best 12 saves to earn the victory.
Ohlmiller led Stony Brook’s offense with three goals and three assists and Barretta had three goals.

• Duke scored 11 goals in the first 17 minutes of the game and 17 in the first half while improving to 5-1 with an 18-5 victory over Elon. Sophomore Charlotte North had four goals and two assists, registering the 100th point of her career.
• Sisters Kaeli Huff and Kelsey Huff each scored four goals as USC beat Boston University 16-11. Kailey Conroy had two goals and five assists for BU, becoming the school’s all-time assists leader with 115.
• Sam Rippley scored a career-high five goals as Davidson beat Old Dominion 18-6. The Wildcats are off to the best start in school history at 5-0.
• Destinee Johnson had 10 points (3g, 7a) as St. Bonaventure beat Kent State 18-10.
• No. 7 Denver’s scheduled game against Vanderbilt was cancelled due to frigid conditions with wind chills expected below zero.
• No. 19 Michigan’s game against Cincinnati was postponed until tomorrow due to inclement weather.
