Undefeated Saint Leo continues to climb in the rankings, joining two other members of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) among the Top 10 in this week’s Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Women's Top 20.

Saint Leo, ranked ninth, improved to 11-0 overall with three wins last week, and is one of six undefeated teams in the top half of the ranking.

Defending national champion Le Moyne continues to hold the top spot, with NE10 rival Adelphi maintaining its position at No. 2. There were no changes in this week’s ranking among the top eight teams, which have a cumulative record of 66-3.

In addition to Saint Leo’s upward movement, fellow SSC member Tampa jumped five spots to No. 14 heading into its showdown with No. 5 Florida Southern.

Other key games this week include No. 1 Le Moyne at No. 18 New Haven, No. 4 West Chester at No. 12 East Stroudsburg, and No. 13 LIU Post at No. 19 Stonehill.

HOT

Tampa (+5)

The Spartans will find out more about themselves Wednesday as they begin conference play against No. 5 Florida Southern. Tampa’s two losses this year have come on the road against undefeated top-10 teams Rollins and Regis. The Spartans are one of the nation’s top-scoring teams, averaging 17 goals per game.

Saint Leo (+2)

The Lions added three more non-conference wins last week to extend the best start in program history to 11-0 overall. All six remaining games come against SSC opponents, beginning Saturday vs. Embry-Riddle. Saint Leo leads the nation in ground balls per game (32) and ranks third in caused turnovers (15.5).

NOT

Assumption (-8)

The Greyhounds tasted defeat for the first time this year, losing in overtime at Bentley and then at No. 2 Adelphi. Assumption snapped the two-game skid with a 21-20 shootout win over Molloy. Emily Spath set a school record with seven assists in that game, including a helper on the overtime winner by Sarah Reilly.

Bentley (-3)

The Falcons have played four-straight overtime games, and it finally caught up with them. Four days after their OT win over Assumption, Bentley was on the losing end of a 12-11 decision at Stonehill. Trailing 10-1 in the second half, Bentley’s furious rally over the final 24 minutes of regulation forced the extra session, which ended with a free-position game-winner by Stonehill.

NEW

Stonehill

The Skyhawks move into the Top 20 for the first time this season following their overtime win at Bentley. Now 2-2 in conference play and 5-2 overall, Stonehill is one of six NE10 teams in this week’s Top 20. Stonehill faces its last non-league opponent Wednesday, hosting No. 13 LIU Post.

OUT

Grand Valley State (formerly No. 20)

The Lakers had their three-game win streak halted Sunday with a 13-7 loss at UIndy. Having played their first nine games away from home, GVSU plays its home opener on Friday and will have six of its last seven games at home.
