A source confirmed to US Lacrosse Magazine earlier reports from Tuesday of Syracuse midfielder Stephen Rehfuss entering the transfer portal.

Chris Jastrzembski first reported the news, while Inside Lacrosse added that “Rehfuss may not be the only noteworthy Syracuse player to seek a transfer prior to the spring season. Those sources say that the players’ consideration is part of an ongoing disciplinary appeals process resulting from an apparent violation of COVID-19 safety protocols.”

Sources tell USLM that there are multiple other players involved in this appeal process, including multiple members of the team’s midfield position.

The Syracuse midfield is largely considered the top group in the nation and was a key reason the Orange were ranked No. 1 in the Nike / US Lacrosse Magazine Division I Top 20 when the season ended due to COVID-19.

Players in the transfer portal are not guaranteed to leave their current universities, as they can withdraw their names at any time. USLM’s source says that “the players all are going through the final appeals process.”

US Lacrosse Magazine will have more on this story as it develops.
