Six previously unbeaten squads suffered their first loss of 2017, resulting in some significant movement in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20.
Then-No. 2 Trinity dropped a one-goal decision to previous No. 9 Ithaca in Nashville, Tenn., to shake up the top 10. No. 12 Bowdoin beat then-No. 8 William Smith in Englewood, Fla. But in both cases, the upset-puller could not stand prosperity — each fell to unranked foes in their next game. The upset victims each subsequently rebounded with victories.
Unbeaten Gettysburg replaced Trinity at No. 2, while third-ranked TCNJ has had three games unplayed due to recent storms and their effects on field conditions.

After a week away, the Red Dragons return to the top 10 with a convincing 13-8 over then-No. 7 Catholic Thursday in a game moved to American University in Washington, D.C. Cortland broke open the game with a 6-0 run in the second half.

The Cardinals had a tough week, following their 13-8 loss to then-No. 18 Cortland with an 18-3 home whitewashing by then-No. 10 Washington and Lee. Catholic fell behind 11-1 in the latter. They’ll try to right the ship in their Landmark Conference opener Saturday against Drew.

The Athenas debut at No. 20 after taking two of three on an Eastern swing through the NESCAC. CMS lost at No. 19 Tufts but won at Connecticut College and then-No. 16 Amherst.

Amherst exits after failing to take advantage of extra prep time before their 5-4 home loss Friday to previously unranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Amherst was scheduled to meet No. 3 TCNJ March 15, but that game was postponed due to inclement weather.
