Major League Lacrosse announced Tuesday morning that Boston Cannons head coach Sean Quirk has been named the New Balance Coach of the Year.
The longest-tenured coach in MLL finished his fifth year with the Cannons with the team's first championship since 2011. During the MLL bubble in Annapolis, Md., the Cannons finished the regular season 3-2 and topped the Denver Outlaws in the championship game 13-10.
In 2019, the Cannons made the playoffs for the first time in the Quirk era. The 2020 season — albeit a shortened one — saw the continued growth of the team under his leadership.
In 18 seasons as coach of Division III power Endicott College, Quirk led the Gulls to an impressive 243-95 record overall, including nine NCAA tournament appearances. Quirk stopped coaching at Endicott when he was hired to coach Boston in 2015, though he remains the Associate Director of Athletics at Endicott.
