Sean Fox epitomized what it meant to live a service-oriented lifestyle. It so happened that his life was rooted in lacrosse. The sport is lucky that for his entire life, Fox gave his generosity of spirit, his passion, his effort and his love and care for those around him to elevate our great game.

Fox, 59, died Aug. 23 after battling liposarcoma.

Growing up in Cortland, N.Y., Fox was a hard-working midfielder and later matriculated at Hobart, where he won five national championships — four as a player and one as a coach.

Fox was the consummate teammate. He understood better than anyone how to support and love those around him and led by example, bringing his best effort and positive attitude every single day. On the field, he was both a dynamic playmaker and a grinder, who was both fearless and completely committed to doing all the little things required to create a championship culture.

Fox brought that same ethos and efforts to his career. He was an industry leader in lacrosse as the CEO of Brine for a decade and later as the one of the key members at 3STEP Sports. Dedicated to growing the sport, Fox brought an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit alongside his trademark care for those around him to great success in all his professional endeavors.

To honor Fox and all that he cared about, 3d Lacrosse and Hobart’s alumni group are partnering with Harlem Lacrosse to create the Sean Fox Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund to support Harlem Lacrosse students who attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The financial support will ensure that Hobart and William Smith Colleges become a possibility to many more students at Harlem Lacrosse and that those students will embody the values of collaboration and inclusivity that made Fox such a wonderful teammate and essential member of the Hobart and William Smith community.
