Down by two goals with less than nine minutes remaining, No. 3 Syracuse needed a spark. Meaghan Tyrrell and Megan Carney came calling.

Tyrrell had two of her team-high five goals and Carney added one goal and one assist from her five-point afternoon during a game-changing six-goal run as time ticked away in the second half, completely shifting the momentum and leading Syracuse to a 15-12 win at the Carrier Dome.

Emma Tyrrell (Meaghan’s younger sister), Sam Swart (three goals) and Bianca Chevarie also scored in the run for Syracuse (8-1, 5-1 ACC).

The Syracuse offense had been stifled up to that point by Charlie Campbell and the Virginia defense. Campbell was a rock, making 18 saves, but the Virginia defense allowed opportunity after opportunity in the waning minutes. It didn’t help that Syracuse kept winning possession with a 19-10 draw advantage.

Both Annie Dyson an Ashlyn McGovern recorded hat tricks for Virginia (8-4, 3-4 ACC).

Whale of a Time for Whelan

Katie Whelan notched a career-high eight points on a career-high six goals and two assists as Hofstra took down CAA rival (in a non-conference game) James Madison 13-7 at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.

Hofstra (4-4) blitzed James Madison (5-4) and got out to a 4-0 lead in the first 14 minutes. James Madison didn’t score until Emma Greenhill found the back of the net with 12:30 left in the first half.

It was a closer game at halftime, as Hofstra lead just 6-4. But by scoring five of the first six goals of the second half, the Pride took an 11-5 lead. It’s Hofstra sixth win against James Madison in 26 tries. Hofstra had lost the previous five meetings dating back to 2015.

North Makes BC History

Not long after Jenn Medjid tied Sam Apuzzo’s single-game goals record at Boston College, Charlotte North went ahead and broke it.

North, the headline-making attacker, scored 10 times in BC’s 21-11 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. She scored five times in each half. The record-breaker came when there was two seconds left in the game. North also tied her career high with 13 draw controls.

Boston College is now 9-1 (5-1 ACC). Virginia Tech is 3-8 (0-6 ACC).

North Carolina Edges Notre Dame

Jamie Ortega scored five goals, including the game-winner late in the second half, as No. 1 North Carolina survived its biggest test of the season with an 11-10 win at Notre Dame. More on the game here.

Lehigh Beats Navy for First Time Since 2011

A decade-long losing streak is over, as unranked Lehigh topped No. 20 Navy 12-7 in Bethlehem, Pa.

Nicole Victory put Navy ahead 7-6 with 14:07 remaining, but Lehigh scored the game’s final six goals. Sondra Dickey scored three of her four goals during the run, while Katia Carnevale added two of her six goals and Gabby Schneider scored the final tally.

Samantha Sagi made nine saves for Lehigh (5-3, 4-1 Patriot). Navy is now 4-3 (1-2 Patriot).

Towson Pulls Away from William & Mary

No. 17 Towson scored 13 second-half goals to pull away from William & Mary for a 20-10 victory. Leading 10-8 more than 10 minutes into the second half, Towson scored four straight goals to take control of the contest.

Blaire Pearre scored seven goals for Towson (8-2) and Nikki Sliwak scored all five of her goals in the second half for the Tigers. Towson dominated on the draw, winning 24 of 32, with Lindsey Marshall collecting 10.

Belle Martire scored five goals for William & Mary (3-6).
