Sowers Hits Another Milestone in Princeton Win
Michael Sowers became the 16th player in NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse history to top 300 career points, helping No. 3 Princeton to a 16-11 victory over state rival Rutgers.
Princeton (5-0) trailed 4-2 early and the game was tied 6-6 early in the second half. Sowers then assisted Chris Brown on back-to-back goals to ignite a six-goal run that gave the Tigers control. The second assist was the 300th point of his career and he finished the game with three goals and two assists to give him 302 points in his career. Albany’s Lyle Thompson holds the NCAA all-time record with 400 points.
Sowers, Connor McCarthy and Alexander Vardaro all had three goals for Princeton.
Sizzling Start Carries Duke Past Loyola
Nakeie Montgomery had a first half hat trick to help No. 11 Duke to a blistering start as the Blue Devils blanked No. 12 Loyola for the first 28 minutes of the game in a 13-10 victory.
Duke (5-2) led 8-0 before Loyola finally found the back of the net on Kevin Lindley’s extra-man goal with just 1:43 left in the first half.
The Greyhounds (4-2) scored four straight on a run going into the fourth quarter to get within three, but the early hole was too much and Duke scored three straight of its own to put it out of reach.
Freshman Dyson Williams led Duke with four goals and Turner Uppgren made a season-high 15 saves to earn the win.
