Taryn Ohlmiller and Ally Kennedy were celebrated before Stony Brook’s matchup with UMBC on Saturday afternoon. On Senior Day, the two Seawolves stars were honored for their contributions to one of the top programs in the country over the past four-plus seasons.

Ohlmiller and Kennedy then proceeded to remind Stony Brook fans just how good this team can be if both are playing at a high level. The two stars combined for 12 points to lead the Seawolves to an 18-7 victory — the 52nd consecutive America East win.

In a game that was seemingly over before halftime, Ohlmiller dropped eight goals and added an assist, finishing a goal shy of the program record set by Courtney Murphy (2016) and Demianne Cook (2012).

Kennedy had all three of her goals in the first half, helping Stony Brook take an 11-3 lead into halftime. Ohlmiller scored four straight goals (one before halftime), to push the Seawolves lead to 11 goals in the second half.

Ohlmiller’s seventh goal came on a behind-the-back shot, culminating a run that sealed the Senior Day win.

Fairfield Survives in Overtime

Fairfield, the top seed in the MAAC tournament, was prepared for a battle with Marist in the conference quarterfinals. The Stags got the Red Foxes’ best shot and then some in an overtime thriller to kick off Saturday’s slate.

Kelly Horning dropped a team-high six goals for Fairfield, including the game-tying tally with less than a minute remaining and the game-winner in overtime, to help the Stags advance with the 14-13 win.

In a game of runs, Samantha Mehalick gave Marist a 13-11 lead with 4:08 left in regulation with her fifth goal — putting her second in program history with 248 points. The eighth seed was poised for an upset, but Arianna Levelle cut the deficit to a goal with 1:50 left.

Horning tied the score off a free position attempt with 54 seconds left, sending the game to overtime. In overtime, she cut left and fired home the game-winner with just 16 seconds remaining in the first period. Fairfield faces fourth-seeded Niagara in the semifinals.

Also in the MAAC tournament:

• Lexi Braniecki tallied five goals, and teammates Shea Swartwout and Rachel Crane each had four goals, to lead Niagara to the 16-11 victory over fifth-seeded Quinnipiac.

• Monmouth scored nine of the first 11 goals to cruise to a 15-6 win over Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. Allison Turturro had five goals to lead the third-seeded Hawks to the MAAC semifinals.

Hofstra Gets By Towson

Alyssa Parrella tallied a career-high 10 draw controls to go along with five goals and an assist to lead Hofstra to the 15-14 back-and-forth win over Towson — the second consecutive win by a goal over the Tigers.

Parrella and Alexa Mattera each had two goals in the first half, which saw Hofstra take a 6-4 lead into the break. The Pride never trailed in the second half, but Towson scored three of four goals to tie the game at 14-14 with 3:11 left in regulation.

Although Parrella had three goals in the second half, it was her assist to Kerry Walser with 40 seconds left that sealed Hofstra’s one-goal win. Towson had a chance to tie the score with seconds left, but Jess Smith stopped Blair Pearre’s shot to clinch the victory.
