Long Island native Sarah Reznick spoiled Stony Brook’s trip south, making 13 saves to lead No. 9 Florida to a 12-10 victory over the No. 3 Seawolves.
Reznick, the highly-touted freshman out of Long Beach (N.Y.) High School, made 10 of her saves in the second half, including three down the stretch with the Gators hanging on to an 11-10 lead. Her final save came on a free position shot by Sarah Pulis with just over five minutes to play. Brianna Harris gave the Gators an insurance goal with just 2:32 left.
Stony Brook opened up a 5-1 lead early, but the Gators scored seven of the game’s next eight goals to take an 8-6 lead after back-to-back goals by Shannon Kavanagh early in the second half. Stony Brook tied the game at 8-8 and 9-9, but never led again.
Kavanagh’s goal with 12:44 to play gave the Gators the lead for good, giving Florida a 10-9 advantage.
Kavanagh, another Long Island high school graduate (Smithtown East), had four goals and an assist for Florida (4-1) and Grace Haus added three goals and assist. Florida has now won four straight in the series, three of them by two goals or less.
Ally Kennedy led Stony Brook (2-1) with four goals.
