Trailing by four with five minutes to play, junior attacker Kelly Larkin sparked a five-goal run, scoring the first and netting the last-second game-winner, to lead unranked Navy to a 14-13 upset victory over No. 13 Florida.
“They pushed us hard,” Navy coach Cindy Timchal said. “We made some adjustments and played through a lot of toughness because Florida is really tough.”

Florida got off to a hot start, recording the first three tallies and entering halftime with a 6-4 lead.
The Gators came out of the break with a 4-1 advantage, but Navy responded with a 4-1 run of its own with two goals from Reagan Roelofs.
Florida’s Lindsey Ronbeck and Brianna Harris assisted each other for back-to-back goals to gain a 13-9 lead at the 5:27 mark.
But a minute later, the Midshipmen went to work.
Larkin’s tally with 4:30 to play was followed up with scores from Marina Lazarides, Kayla Harris and Andie O’Sullivanm before Larkin found the back of the net once more with 17 seconds remaining.
Navy’s win was fueled by a 16-12 edge on the draw, led by Annalise’s Heyward’s 10, and a 12-8 advantage in saves, with eight from Gab Harchelroad and four from Abbi Young.
The Gators, which dropped to 1-3 on the year, saw a team-high six points from Ronbeck on four goals and two assists, while also adding four draw controls.
The Midshipmen advance to 4-1, with Saturday’s win marking its second over a Top 20 opponent. Next up, they host No. 1 Boston College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Strong First Half Boosts Syracuse Past Virginia
Behind a five-point effort from Mary Rahal and four goals from Emily Hawryschuk, No. 4 Syracuse defeats No. 5 Virginia 16-11 in the Carrier Dome for the Cavaliers’ first loss on the year. It was the Orange’s third straight Top 20 victory as they move to 6-1.
"Beating three ranked opponents in seven days – I'm extremely happy," Syracuse coach Gary Gait said. "We still have work to do and room to improve. That's what great teams do – they drive to improve and be their best."
Syracuse scored the first two goals of the game and finished the first half with a 5-1 run, including two straight goals from Nicole Levy to enter the break with a 10-5 lead.
Hawryschuk opened the scoring after halftime, followed by a tally from Natalie Wallon.
Then Virginia started to settle the score for the 6-6 second half. Over the next 20 minutes, the Cavaliers held the 6-2 advantage to come within three with 4:29 to play. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the Orange’s first-half performance.
Within the final 3:02, Megan Carney and Rahal recorded two more insurance tallies for the five-goal victory.
Virginia had the edge on both the draw (16-13) and ground balls (24-21), but Syracuse outshot UVA 31-25. Eight different Oranges scored at least one goal.
“Syracuse did a great job of empowering all of their attackers, making sure everyone was a threat,” Virginia coach Julie Myers said. “Everyone seemed to contribute today, so it wasn't one hot player that we had to shut down. It was a hot team.”

Ortega’s Record-Tying Mark Led UNC in Northwestern Win
Sophomore attacker Jamie Ortega tied a North Carolina program record, tallying 10 points in the No. 3 Tar Heels’ 21-11 rout of No. 9 Northwestern. It was their first win in the new UNC Lacrosse & Soccer Stadium.
“We're obviously very excited to be able to open up our stadium with a decisive win, 21-11, over a really good program and really good team," North Carolina coach Jenny Levy said.
A six-goal run and a five-goal spurt for the Tar Heels led to a 14-3 lead at halftime. The Wildcats had the edge in the second period, outscoring the home team 8-7, but it wasn’t enough to rebound.
In addition to Ortega’s seven goals and three assists, UNC got five goals from Taylor McDaniels and hat tricks from Katie Hoeg and Olivia Ferrucci. Goalie Taylor Moreno recorded 11 saves.
“Northwestern had been averaging 18 goals a game, and we held them to three in the first half,” Levy said. “They beat us in the second half, so there are things to get better at."
