The Yale Daily News reports that Bulldogs head coach Andy Shay sent a letter to “some alumni” confirming that the program will not play in 2021 because of an insufficient number of players enrolled. Shay also confirmed that TD Ierlan will transfer to Denver. Ierlan will transfer his credits and graduate with a Yale degree.

“The team had to choose to enroll and quarantine on February 1, and unfortunately, they were not certain that they would be able to play,” Shay wrote in the email. “Since they all want at least one more guaranteed season in a Yale Lacrosse jersey, the overwhelming majority decided not to challenge it. They have been incredibly resilient throughout this entire process.”

Student-athletes on the Yale men’s lacrosse team have taken matters into their own hands.

Still awaiting a de facto decision from the Ivy League, Yale players and parents of players told Inside Lacrosse that “about 40 members of Yale’s men’s lacrosse team decided not to enroll for this semester, leaving about eight players enrolled,” writes IL's Terry Foy.

As such, the expectation is that Yale will skip the season.

Yale faceoff star TD Ierlan recently entered the transfer portal as a backup plan for just this situation. He told our Matt Hamilton that he would likely transfer to Denver if the Ivy League does not play spring sports.
