Penn midfielder Sam Handley will reportedly miss “several weeks” after suffering a spleen injury against Maryland, according to Inside Lacrosse’s Ty Xanders.

Penn officials did not respond to a US Lacrosse Magazine email request for confirmation.

Xanders said that multiple sources indicated that Handley may have ruptured his spleen, although it’s not clear when or how the injury occurred in the 17-15 loss to the Terps. Handley spent “a better part of the week” in the hospital.

One of last year’s breakout stars, Handley was a first team All-American as a freshman. He poured in 35 goals and tallied 26 assists and was a key in Penn’s playoff run that ended in an NCAA quarterfinal.
