Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse coach Eric Fekete has been fired after a university investigation into team hazing and alcohol use. The team will remain suspended through the end of this year, forfeiting the remainder of its fall ball schedule, with individual players subject to additional discipline.
“After a comprehensive investigation into violations of the student conduct policy involving hazing and alcohol, the university has extended the suspension of the men’s lacrosse team through Dec. 31, 2018,” said Lynn Bushnell, vice president for public affairs, in a statement acquired by College Crosse and the Quinnipiac Chronicle.
Florida Lacrosse News first reported Fekete’s dismissal. Bobcats assistant coach Mason Poli has been appointed the interim head coach.
“The university will continue to take action toward those responsible for behavior that poses a threat to the well-being of our students,” Bushnell said.
The Bobcats were 9-6 last spring. Fekete was the MAAC Coach of the Year. Poli has been the team’s defensive coordinator for the last four seasons, following a stint as a volunteer assistant at Richmond.
