Dane Dobbie’s been around for a good while. It’s the 38-year-old’s 16th season in the National Lacrosse League. On Saturday, he added yet another remarkable feat to his legendary career.

Dobbie, back with the Calgary Roughnecks after a two-year stint with the San Diego Seals, started Saturday’s game against the Albany FireWolves in anything but record-setting pace. He didn’t have a point in the game’s first 45 minutes and 34 seconds.

Then he made up for lost time.

His first goal of the night came 34 seconds into the final period and cut the Albany lead to 9-6. Albany extended the lead to 10-6 a few minutes later. Dobbie then scored four straight goals to tie it at 10. After a Tye Kurtz goal for Albany, Dobbie tied it at 11. Then Dyson Williams scored for the FireWolves. Dobbie scored again, this time sending it to overtime tied at 12.

Guess who played the hero in overtime. Dobbie scored less than a minute into the extra frame, pushing Calgary to a 13-12 win. His seven fourth-quarter goals set an NLL record.

Aging like a fine wine, Dobbie and the Roughnecks are off to a strong start at 2-0.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NLL

  • Buffalo scored nine goals in each half as it ran away from the Black Bears, 18-7. Josh Byrne, last year’s MVP, posted a game-high in points (10) and assists (8).
  • The Warriors deposited eight second-half goals to squeeze out a 10-7 win over the Knighthawks. They scored the final three goals of the game, one each from Jonathan Peshko, Reid Bowering and Jeff Cornwall.
  • A seven-goal outburst in the second quarter proved to be the difference in the Seals’ 14-11 win over the Mammoth. Zach Currier, Wes Berg and Kyle Jackson each scored twice in the quarter.
  • It was all Wings on Saturday, as Philadelphia dominated Las Vegas, 19-10. Joe Resetarits produced 11 points to lead all players, while Holden Cattoni’s nine assists were a game high. The Wings never trailed after taking a 5-4 lead early in the second quarter.
  • Leave it to Lyle Thompson to will the Swarm. His goal with a minute left in regulation gave Georgia a 10-9 lead over the injury-depleted Rock, and the Swarm held on to win. Thompson had three goals and two assists.
  • The Rush and Thunderbirds needed overtime to decide things. It was amazing the Rush even got there. Zach Manns scored four goals in 5:27 in the fourth quarter, cutting an 8-3 Halifax lead to 8-7. Levi Anderson netted the equalizer with 5:41 left in regulation, then Manns finished the job in overtime.
