A white-hot start gave Duke an early 9-2 lead over Syracuse, but the Orange battled back to win an epic ACC game in the Carrier Dome on Sunday, beating the Blue Devils 18-16. Syracuse scored first, but Duke then reeled off eight straight goals and Syracuse didn't regain the lead until a goal by Megan Carney opened the fourth quarter to give the Orange a 14-13 lead. Syracuse eventually stretched the lead to 17-14, but Duke pulled within one with 3:04 remaining. Duke, which hit two pipes and had another goal waved off for a crease violation in the fourth quarter, couldn't come all the way back and Sam Swart iced the game for Syracuse with 22 seconds left.

Carney and Meaghan Tyrrell each scored five goals for Syracuse. Catrionna Barry led the Duke offense with four goals and four assists and Katie DeSimone had a goal and five assists.
