Mercy, ranked No. 3 in the Nike / USA Lacrosse NCAA Division II men's rankings, started slow, falling behind 3-2 at the half, and then held off a late Wilmington rally to win 8-7 on Saturday. Andrew Calabria and Dominic Scorcia each scored twice in the third quarter as the Mavericks outscored Wilmington 5-0 in the frame. Scorcia led Mercy with three goals and Tommy Umano made 11 saves as the Mavericks started 3-0 for the second straight season. Miles Crouse led Wilmington with four goals, including three in the final 2:39 of the game as the Wildcats pulled to within a single goal. Jason Roland made 14 saves for Wilmingoton.
