For the second time in less than a month, UMBC shocked athletic world. In March, No. 16 seed UMBC upset No. 1 seed Virginia in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, the first time a No. 16 seed had beaten a No. 1 in men's hoops. UMBC pulled some more Friday night magic with a stunning 11-7 win over No. 1 Albany on April 6.

UMBC came into the game with just two wins for the season, but outscored the Danes 5-0 in the second quarter and never trailed. Billy Nolan had three goals and two assists for the Retrievers and Tommy Lingner made 16 saves. Tehoka Nanticoke and Kyle McClancy each had hat tricks for Albany and TD Ierlan won 19-of-21 faceoffs.
