Late Friday afternoon, Holy Cross athletic director Marcus Blossom announced that Shayne Lynch will take over as interim men's lacrosse coach for Peter Burke. No reason was given as to why Burke is no longer with the program, though the shakeup in leadership is "effective immediately."
In an official release, Holy Cross said that a national search for the next head coach will begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made.
Burke was elevated from assistant to interim head coach himself on June 29, 2018. His Crusaders went 7-7 in 2019, though it ended with a 14-5 loss to Army in the Patriot League tournament. Still, that record was the program's best since 1987. Holy Cross went 4-3 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
As an assistant, Burke aided in back-to-back Patriot League tournament appearances for the Crusaders in 2016 and 2017.
Lynch is in his third season with Holy Cross, previously serving as an assistant and defensive coordinator.
