The top five teams in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20 hold steady at their spots. No. 1 Maryland clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season title after defeating Penn State 16-14 and staying undefeated despite a strong effort from the Nittany Lions.

Penn saw the most movement this week after upsetting Ivy League foe Princeton and will advance to the conference tournament. The Quakers are on a hot streak after scoring 51 goals in a three-game span, the most goals scored since the 1980 team recorded 61.

But Denver saw the most movement in the opposite direction, after being upset by unranked Georgetown in Big East play.

The regular season has come to a close for some Top 20 teams and conference tournaments are starting to shape up. Up first are the ACC and MPSF tournaments, kicking off on April 27. No. 2 North Carolina claimed the top seed in the ACC and USC is No. 1 in the MPSF

HOT

Penn (+5)

By scoring 17 goals for the third straight game thanks to eight from Alex Condon, Penn upset its conference rival Princeton 17-12 to earn a trip to the Ivy League tournament. The win marks Penn’s first over a top-six opponent since beating No. 3 North Carolina 10-7 in 2011.

Boston College (+3)

After falling to Duke two weeks ago, Boston College recovered in the ACC with a 16-10 upset victory over Notre Dame on senior day. Kenzie Kent, who tallied a team-best seven points against the Irish, has been a key impact player for the Eagles since she joined the team following her ice hockey season.

Louisville (+3)

The Cardinals have been on the edge of breaking through against top opponents as their losses have been by four or fewer goals. But they finally recorded a huge quality win over Syracuse, which had just upset reigning national champion North Carolina. Meghan Siverson led Louisville with a team-high five points in the 9-8 upset.

NOT

Denver (-5)

Denver only has three losses this year, but they were to top 10 opponents. On Saturday, the Pioneers fell to unranked, Big East foe Georgetown (9-7) despite a second half comeback. Denver trailed 7-2 at halftime and ultimately fell by two goals.

Syracuse (-3)

After stunning North Carolina and defeating Cornell, the Orange’s five-game win streak was snapped by ACC rival Louisville. They allowed the Cardinals to get more shots off and win the draw battle 12-7.

Notre Dame (-3)

The Irish have gone 3-5 in the past eight games, most recently being upset by Boston College 16-10. Notre Dame had a two-goal lead at halftime, but allowed the Eagles to score 11 goals in the second period. Boston College outshot (37-23 shots), out-hustled (19-18 ground balls) and outdrew (20-8 draw controls) the Irish.

James Madison (-3)

After cruising through the CAA, James Madison suffered its first conference loss to unranked Delaware, 15-12, failing to overcome a five-goal halftime deficit. The Dukes will be looking to rebound in the CAA tournament in May.
