Pat Spencer has reached the next step in achieving his NBA dreams.

On Monday, Keith Smith of Spotrac reported that Spencer signed a non-guaranteed training camp deal with the Golden State Warriors.

Spencer, 26, played a single college basketball season at Northwestern (2019-20) before a professional stint in Germany. He followed that with a few opportunities with the Washington Wizards, including stops in the G-League, Summer League and training camp.

Of course, Spencer is most known for a lacrosse career at Loyola punctuated by a Tewaaraton Award in 2019.

After going No. 1 overall in the Premier Lacrosse League draft, Spencer opted to attend Northwestern and pursue a basketball career. He was a surprise in the Big Ten after so much time away from the hardwood, averaging 10.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 31 games (29 starts) for the Wildcats.

Spencer signed what is called an Exhibit 10 contract with Golden State. You can learn more about that here, but it is essentially a non-guaranteed, minimum salary deal that provides teams with more flexibility when filling out roster spots.

The Warriors are still looking to fill out spots on its 15-player roster. Even if Spencer doesn’t crack the squad for the defending NBA champion, it’s possible he heads to the organization’s G-League roster to continue his pursuit of making it to the NBA.
