The next generation of USA men’s lacrosse players proved that the Americans will be a force on the global stage for years to come during Brogden Cup play Saturday. The USA Select U16 and U18 teams went a combined 4-0, with each squad scoring wins over the Haudenosaunee and Ontario.

USA U18 topped the Haudenosaunee Nationals 16-3 before edging Ontario 9-8 in overtime. Brock Behrman (Salisbury School ‘23/Notre Dame) netted the overtime winner as part of a six-goal day.

USA U16 posted similar results, earning a 15-1 win over the Nationals before later beating Ontario 12-4. Luke Miller (McDonogh ‘24/Notre Dame) tallied eight points, all against the Haudenosaunee. The Americans’ displayed a more balanced attack in the win over Ontario.

NOTABLES

• USA U18 defeated Haudenosaunee, 16-3. The U.S. U18 team broke an early 1-1 tie with a 6-0 run, taking a 7-1 lead when Matthew Han (Paul V Catholic High School ‘23/Michigan) scored unassisted at 8:50 of the second quarter. The Haudenosaunee got one back at 5:03. But the USA offense took over from there, scoring four goals in the final 3:14 of the half to spark a 10-goal run. Zach Bye (Hotchkiss School ‘23/Holy Cross) tallied two goals and an assist during the game-ending run and finished with four points. Behrman led the contest with four goals. Sean Creter (Hunterdon Central ‘23/Maryland) won 13 faceoffs and scored once.

• USA U18 defeated Ontario U19, 9-8. Down by two with under seven minutes to play in regulation, the U.S. mounted a comeback. Behrman, quiet after a dominant performance against the Haudenosaunee, struck first on a feed from Nate Kabiri (Georgetown Prep ’23/Princeton). Triston Jewell (Mater Dei Santa Anav ‘23/Johns Hopkins) scored the equalizer with 1:49 left. Behrman’s second goal of the game won it for the Americans. Creter once again led from X, winning seven faceoffs. Benjamin Abel (Highland Park ‘23/Loyola) led with six saves, all in the second half.

• USA U16 defeated Haudenosaunee U16, 15-1. The Americans raced out to a 14-0 lead, including a 12-0 halftime margin, before the Haudenosaunee got on the board at 6:13 of the third quarter. Luke Miller tallied eight points on six goals and two assists and scored a first-quarter hat trick. Owen Scott (Calvert Hall ‘24) finished with two goals and an assist. Flynn Wilson (Lucy Beckham ’24) won a game-high of six faceoffs, while Trevor Sardis (Bernards ’24) won four faceoffs. Luke Arrighi (Bronxville ‘24/UNC) made five stops in net.

• USA U16 defeated Ontario U17, 12-4. The first game may have been the Miller show, but the Americans employed a much more balanced offense in its 12-4 win over Ontario. Eight different players registered a point, led by three from Jake Vana (St. John’s Prep ‘24), Justin Brown (St. Paul’s School ‘24 /Fairfield) and Cormac Scane (Culver Academy ’26). Hunter Keller (Davis High School ’24) finished with six saves to lead all goalies. Sardis won five faceoffs, while Wilson tallied two faceoffs. The Americans jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Ontario scored the next two. USA then rattled off eight-straight goals, capped by back-to-back scores from Brown, to seize momentum.
