Selena Lasota scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Northwestern beat Penn 12-11, capturing its third win in the last seven days to run its record to 9-3.

Lasota, a junior All-American who missed most of last season with an injury, scored a season-high five goals in the victory. She leads Northwestern with 30 goals and 37 points this season.

No. 12 Northwestern opened the week with a 14-10 home victory over No. 13 Syracuse on Monday and then knocked off Johns Hopkins 11-10 on Friday.

On Sunday at historic Franklin Field, the Wildcats looked well on their way to coasting to their fourth straight win after Danita Stroup's goal gave Northwestern an 11-6 lead with 14:31 remaining in the game.

But No. 10 Penn (8-2) had other ideas. The Quakers scored five straight goals, tying the game 11-11 on Erin Barry's free position goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the second half. Katy Junior forced a turnover with just 29 seconds left to give the Quakers the final chance.

In the first half of the overtime period, both teams had shots, but did not put them on goal. Northwestern won the draw to start the second half of the overtime and held the ball for the entire session. Penn's Mikaila Cheeseman made one save, but Lasota sunk the game-winner with 1:11 left.

Lasota also had an assist in the contest to lead Northwestern with six points. Shelby Fredericks had two goals and two assists, Stroup had a pair of goals and Julie Krupnick made 12 saves, nine of them in the second half.

Zoe Belodeau was one of four Quakers with two goals, and she added three assists for a team-high five points. She also added a game-high nine draw controls to help Penn register a 17-8 advantage on draws. Cheeseman made 11 saves for Penn.

Stanford Takes Lead in Pac-12

Stanford knocked off USC for the second Sunday in a row, moving into first place in the Pac 12 with a 14-11 win over the Trojans.

Since beginning the season with two straight losses, Stanford has now won nine of its last 10 games and leads the Pac-12 with a 6-1 record. USC fell to 5-2 in the league and Colorado, which handed Stanford its only league loss, is 4-1.

No. 16 Stanford and No. 14 USC played a double overtime game last weekend, and this game was a similar tight battle. Neither team led by more than a goal until USC's Emily Concialdi and Kaeli Huff scored back-to-back goals to give the Trojans a 10-8 lead with 21:27 left in the second half.

Stanford answered with four straight goals, two of them by freshman Galen Lew, to take a 12-10 lead. USC's Izzy McMahon followed Lew's second goal just 48 seconds later, pulling the Trojans to within 12-11 with seven minutes to play, but Stanford's Ali Baiocco and Maggie Nick closed out the scoring for the win.

Baicco led the Stanford offense with six points on four goals and two assists and Kelsey Murray added four points on two goals and two assists.

McMahon had four goals for USC and Concialdi had three goals and two assists. Gussie Johns made 13 saves for the Trojans.

In Sunday's other games:

  • Oregon scored the first six goals of the game and defeated East Carolina 14-3. Natalie Modly and Jill Zubillage each had three goals and Cambri Cukar had a team-high six points (2g, 4a). Brittany Read made nine saves to lead the Ducks (6-5) to their second straight win.

  • Cal avenged last week's overtime loss to Arizona State with a 17-13 win in Tempe, Ariz. Garrett Parker scored four first half goals to help the Bears to a 10-2 halftime advantage. Kirsten Swanson also had four goals in the win, and had three assists for a seven-point day.
