No. 9 Stony Brook scored three straight goals in the first four minutes of the game and never gave up control in a 9-7 victory over No. 10 USC before 2,516 fans at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves (7-1) matched their largest lead of five goals at 8-3 as Taryn Ohlmiller scored off an assist from her sister, Kylie, with 7:42 to go in the first half. Kerrigan Miller and Kylie Drexel scored late in the half to cut it to 8-5 at halftime.

With that three-goal lead, Stony Brook was content to be patient in the second half of a game that featured just 41 combined shots. Neither team scored until Kyle Ohlmiller scored midway through the half to make it 9-5. USC made one final charge as Michaela Michael scored on a diving shot for USC at 9:25 and Miller cut it to 9-7 at 5:20. That was the end of the Trojans’ run as Stony Brook goalie Anna Tesoriero made two saves in the final three minutes of the game.

Kylie Ohlmiller led Stony Brook with three goals and two assists while Taryn Ohlmiller and Dorrien Van Dyke each added two goals. Tesoriero made nine saves to earn the victory. Michael, Miller and Drexel all had two goals for USC (6-3).

• After giving up the first goal to Coastal Carolina, No. 13 Elon (7-2) scored nine straight goals on the way to a 15-6 victory over the Chanticleers. Stephanie Asher had four goals and Rachel Ramirez made 10 saves in the victory.

• No. 15 Virginia Tech matched a program record with its 11^th victory of the season, a 19-5 win over Campbell. Kristine Loscalzo set career highs with six goals and seven points in the victory for the Hokies (11-2).

• In Division II, No. 5 LIU Post edged East Stroudsburg 12-11 on Ryan McKinney’s goal with 6:22 to play McKinney scored the last two goals of the game and finished with seven overall. In a game played at US Lacrosse, No. 6 Rollins beat Shepherd 16-2 behind four goals from Kallie German.
