The 2018-19 NLL season, salvaged when the league and players reached a collective bargaining agreement, starts Dec. 15 with a revamped schedule. Check back to uslaxmagazine.com as we roll out our season preview — including Jack Goods’ projections, team-by-team capsules and additional features, some of which appeared in the December edition.
1. Saskatchewan Rush
With the talent they’ve accumulated, it may be a while before the Rush aren’t the class of the West. They gave up a haul to get Brett Mydske back from San Diego and keep their defense intact.
2. Colorado Mammoth
Colorado lost two strong defensemen in the expansion draft, but Dillon Ward makes up for some lapses. Ryan Benesch saw a 25-point increase from his last year in Buffalo to his first year in Colorado.
3. Calgary Roughnecks
The Roughnecks haven’t finished higher than third in the West since 2014 but did upset Colorado in the playoffs last year. Dane Dobbie, Riley Loewen, Jesse King and Dan Taylor highlight a deep lefty forward group.
4. San Diego Seals
First overall pick Austin Staats has the potential to be a face-of-the-franchise talent right away, while the list of interesting wildcards includes Garrett Billings, Joe Walters and Connor Kelly.
5. Vancouver Warriors
It may take a while to fix a roster that went 2-16 last season and is void of future assets. The Warriors desperately need a return to prior production from Rhys Duch and Logan Schuss.
